All you've ever really wanted is to be appreciated for your work
and to have time to enjoy your life and family.
Is that too much to ask?!
It's not. You've put in a bajillion years to reach this point in your career. You're fully booked, you get referrals, you're asked to chair committees because of your expertise. And you've got the family you always dreamed of, replete with yearly holiday cards.
While it looks like you're doing it all, the truth is everything feels like it's nearly falling apart. Like you're running faster and faster on a treadmill you're about to fly off of.
That level of overwhelm shows up in an unrelenting inner monologue. Not only does your brain tell you that you suck as a mom and you suck as a doctor and you should probably just get up a little earlier and work a little harder... it's making you feel powerless to do anything about it.
I am exhausted and overwhelmed. I have no idea how this could possibly get better unless I quit medicine. But it's too early to retire and I have no idea what else I could do. Argh.
I have a "good life" and I should just suck it up.
Where is the f-ing fairy tale ending that I've worked so hard for?!
The things you’ve already tried to ease your exhaustion and burnout (thank you yearly “wellness” modules!) just don’t help
Because they don’t actually get to the root of the problem…
Your brain has literally been trained to see all the negatives
And while that saves your patients, it makes your life SOOO much harder.
When you have a brain that can come up with a full-page differential for a cough, it's no wonder that same brain also sees the 20 things that aren't going like they should:
The BP not being rechecked, even though you've reminded your MA many times
All those patients running late AGAIN
The cereal bowls from breakfast still in the sink when you get home
Your partner forgetting the shin guards and cleats for soccer practice
They all add up, one after the other, leaving you feeling like you're on the constant brink of losing it.
Wondering why this sounds so accurate?
Hi! I’m Dr. Michelle Chestovich
For years I lived in the Land of Overwhelm — my actual address was Saint Paul, MN. I tried more sleep, more exercise, two date nights a month. I'd feel better for a while, then I'd be drowning again, crying myself to sleep thinking I suck as a mom. I suck as a doctor.
In March 2021, I lost my youngest sister, Dr. Gretchen Butler, unexpectedly to suicide. I learned we lose nearly two medical school classes — 300 to 400 physicians — every year to suicide. We were taught to put patients first and never say no. We were never taught to take care of ourselves.
The cost of not learning this is that you burn out, hate medicine, and leave… or worse.
When I finally hired a coach, it was like someone handed me a life jacket. I still had the same job and the same 4 kids, but I finally felt back in control. I finished my notes before I left clinic. I started reading for fun again and joined the physician mom book club I never had time for.
If the Queen of Overwhelm can calm the F down, so can you.
Stress Rx Coaching for women in medicine
INTRODUCING…
The 12-week group coaching program so you can be less stressed, create MORE time, and finally ENJOY your life
Just like I'd give you PenVK for strep, this is the Rx for burnout and overwhelm.
This isn't another self-help book, podcast, or burnout conference telling you to be more resilient or more efficient in a way that sounds nice in theory.
This is practical support and tools to unlock what's actually getting in the way of you finding time for you.
During our 12 weeks together, you'll tackle your real-life obstacles head-on and create a strategy that works for YOU so you can:
Finally get your nights and weekends back
Rediscover JOY in medicine and in your life
Feel more in control no matter what's going on that day
Actually be present with your kids (instead of thinking about logging back in while you read to them)
Finally have time for YOU (yes, really!)
“I was so burnt out and was unable to find any joy at work, only frustration day after day. Learning to set boundaries helped me actually like my job again. And even more, I found time for me and I’m enjoying my whole life more! ”
Here is the process to feel less stress, to create more time and to actually enjoy your life.
-
When you open your computer and see 18 patients on your schedule, what's your first thought? Probably something like "That's way too many people" or "This day is going to be a disaster."
Two doctors can look at the exact same schedule and have completely different experiences. One feels overwhelmed before she sees her first patient. The other feels focused and ready.
The difference isn't the circumstances. It's the story your brain tells you about them.
In Step 1, you'll learn to catch these automatic thoughts in real time. You'll practice separating the facts (18 patients scheduled) from the story ("This is too many"). You can't control how many patients show up, but you can control the story you tell yourself about it, and that skill alone changes everything.
-
Without boundaries, of course your patients bring 10 issues to one visit and want ongoing care through MyChart messages. Of course your staff interrupts you while you're charting. Of course you're working late trying to catch up.
Without boundaries, you end up signed up for things you don't want to do because you felt too guilty to say no.
Boundaries aren't mean. They're kinder. When a patient piles on issue after issue, neither of you gets what you need.
In Stress Rx, we plan your response ahead of time. So when a patient brings up "one more thing" at the end of the visit, you're ready: "That sounds really important, and it deserves time and attention, so please schedule another appointment on your way out."
The more you practice (with other women cheering you on!), the easier it gets.
-
As a super high achiever, you want to do ALL the things, and your brain tells you they all need to be done TODAY. That's a recipe for being a total stress ball.
40 labs to review feels like a chore that will eat your whole day. But with a guardrail like "I'm going to grab some tea and see what I can get done in the next hour," suddenly it's manageable.
In Step 3, you'll learn to separate the "shoulds" from what you actually want and need to do. You'll discover you don't have to be DOING all the time. You can read a book in the middle of the day, and no one dies. And ironically, you'll get more done with way less drama.
-
The to-do list never ends. If you wait until everything is done before going to yoga or (GASP) reading a book in the middle of the day, it'll never happen. You've been programmed to believe taking time for yourself is selfish.
But once you have support to actually do it, you'll see it's better for everyone. Maybe it's 30 minutes to drink your coffee while it's hot, even if the kids are up early.
In Step 4, you'll move past the guilt and schedule time for YOU. You'll set boundaries like "Mom's coffee time is 6 to 6:30 am" and stick to them without apologizing.
You deserve more than the leftovers of your time.
When you master these four steps, you stop barely keeping your head above water and start enjoying the life you've worked so hard to build.

Women in medicine who feel overwhelmed at work and at home and want practical tools, not another wellness module. Physicians, NPs and PAs are welcome.

I hear you, and that's exactly why this exists. "Later" never comes, and things don't calm down on their own. This is 1.5 hours a week with no homework. I teach 5 to 10 minutes at the start of each session, so there are no extra modules or reading. We even have a session on finding more time, and that alone will give you time back.

You'd pay for your kid's summer camp without blinking. You're allowed to be worth the same investment.

What's shared in the group stays in the group. Coaching is not therapy. We focus on your thoughts and actions now and going forward. If you need mental health care, I'll encourage you to get it.
-
You've been handling things for years. That's the problem. Coaching is how you stop white-knuckling it.
-
Every woman who has joined thought that. The details are different, but the brain patterns are the same, and that's what we work on.
-
All calls are recorded, so you can watch at your convenience. You'll still benefit from watching others be coached, which is the huge value of a small group
-
No problem at all. You'll gain so much from watching others be coached and feeling less alone in your struggles. The group is intentionally small, so we quickly build community and safety. If you'd prefer 1:1 coaching, reach out. I have a few spots available.
